Debit and Credit Cards in Circulation in the UK, 1990-2006P
Many issuers of credit cards in the UK began introducing annual fees in the early 1990s, resulting in the cancellation of accounts by some customers. Cards in circulation fell accordingly and did not recover until the late 1990s. Since then, several US monoline card issuers, such as MBNA, have entered the market in a big way and deployed US-style customer acquisition efforts.
